Exposure Electronics has added to the compact ‘XM’ series of hi-fi components it released earlier this year with a new preamplifier, the XM7.

‘The inspiration for the series came from the unstoppable resurgence of vinyl amid a digital age,’ said Exposure’s chief designer Tony Brady. ‘I see both formats as being here to stay and believe that both have further growth and development ahead of them. It’s no longer a case of either/or. At the same time, quality of sound is once again becoming important to an increasing number of people—across all media.

The new Exposure XM7 preamplifier includes a moving-magnet phono stage, a DAC with five digital inputs plus line-level inputs that include a fixed-gain input for home theatre use. There are two headphone outputs and two preamplifier outputs (to permit bi-amping.) Unlike many modern preamplifiers which use noisy switch-mode power supplies, the XM7’s supply is linear, and headed by a 200VA toroidal transformer.
